What is Pilates?

This is Joseph Pilates, the man to thank for developing ‘contrology’ the exercise system we know today as Pilates.

Joseph started life experiencing very poor health including asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. Told by doctors that he wouldn’t live very long, Joseph spent his entire life improving his physical strength.

The Pilates method provides an all over body workout incorporating the six unique principles of; Alignment, Centre, Breathing, Focus, Control and Flow.

Using precise and controlled movements the method work towards restoring physical and mental balance, which with regular practice can improve posture, reduce muscle tension and daily stresses placed on the spine and joints.
